How To Tell If Bottom Paint On Boat Is Still Good

Re: Can I get away without painting the lesser of my boat?

Welcome to iboats, spaniard!

At our previous identify we left our fiberglass boats at the dock in fresh water from May to Oct. Every day, all day, every year for decades without bottom paint on whatever boat. There was a gawdawful slime ring at the waterline to content with in the fall (or office mode through the summertime if I was feeling energetic) but I never encountered whatsoever problems that I could tell, anyway. No blisters, null.

Only reason I use a marine runway organisation at the current place is the shoreline is unprotected and can become pounded something vehement by wind and waves.

Having a trailer isn't a bad idea because I assume you need to shop it in the winter? Doesn't hateful you need a truck. Store the trailer with the marina and take them use one of their trucks in the jump and fall to launch and think your boat.

Re: Can I get away without painting the bottom of my gunkhole?

Ok. Here is the scoop. Tin can you get without bottom paint? Yes just you lot open up up a new can of problems.
ane. Before you put the boat in the water you need to wax the bottom.
2. Every 7-x days you lot will need to take a swim with a brush to clean the bottom.
iii. If rack storage you need to clean all the scum off the hull prior to it going upwardly. Yous don't want that scum to dry onto the hull. Information technology volition stain.
iv. I would go to the lake where you lot are boating and see what others are doing. I have white Enron 33 on mine and I may be in a slip for a month or two, so trailer for a few weeks, back into the slip for a calendar week, into fresh for calendar week, sit on the trailer for a few weeks then echo. I found the lesser pigment a much better way aposed to going clean.

Re: Can I get away without painting the lesser of my boat?

Every summer we used to go to a lake and exit our boat in the water. The hull was figerglass. Information technology wouldn't take but a few days for the scum to beginning building. Scum and algae and if in salt h2o, barnacles, tin actually consume upwardly your mph in a hurry.

Antifouling, painting as you lot put information technology is part of boating, why are y'all and then reluctant?
It should take y'all only 2 days or and then,
Clean with acetone, sand, clean once more, primer, then 2 to 3 layers of antifouling...
done.
presuming you lot will do information technology yourself.
take care with antifouling paint its poisonous substance!
Commencement at the back.
Y mucho suerte.

Re: Can I get away without painting the bottom of my boat?

I as a former boatyard worker did a complete antifouling chore on a big boat in two days sometimes three. How long does it take you?
Aye its dirty yes its dangerous and everything else,Merely my goal was to become him to exercise information technology himself,Thats what iboats is about right? Not taking information technology to someone who might not even do a good chore, losing money...Its a skillful manner to get to know your gunkhole,Starting time at the bottom!

Re: Tin I get abroad without painting the bottom of my boat?

No one here can reply your question. ONLY people with experience at YOUR identify of mooring tin answer.

The object is to forestall marine growth from attaching to your hull. Period. If you moor where there is no marine growth, that's it. Exercise nothing.

Some people with small boats are concerned about how the lesser looks when the boat is on the trailer. Why, is across me. But that consideration does not pertain to a 34' gunkhole. Condone cosmetic concerns.

The people with noesis of your surface area, if marine growth is an issue at that place, volition present you with choices, divided betwixt keeping the gunkhole in the water, or out. Out is expensive and inconvenient. The less inconvenient, the more expensive. In, painted, is what virtually people with your boat exercise, and accept done, forever.

Only your local people tin can tell yous what paint to use, if you decide to keep the boat in the h2o where it belongs. As to hauling information technology occasionally, some paints can dry and some can't. Ablative paints need to accept the boat used, and so while yous are gone for two months, yous probably should have someone at the marina take the boat out. Should exercise that anyway.

Cheers, Mark. The folks at marina advice me to paint the hull as well. It is somewhat sad, equally one does not find many '02 cruisers of that size with a clean bottom... and being new o larger cruisers I was wanting to notice out a mode to avoid painting her based on the usage listed higher up.

Once again, Thanks.

Re: Can I get away without painting the bottom of my boat?

Bottom pigment is not going to stop all the scum from building up on the bottom if y'all leave your boat in months at a time. Had a 21' sailboat that we kept in the Delaware River (nigh Philly) kept in the h2o may-november and never painted information technology. I did booty it out every few weeks though. I advise in investing a trailer and shrinkwrapping your boat in the winter. Should pay off in the long run and with shrinkwrap nothings getting in. My dad was in the same situation as you lot are guy suggested her pigment the lesser but once you paint it theres no going back unless yous want an expensive sandblasting of the lesser.

Re: Can I get away without painting the bottom of my boat?

why would yous shrink wrap in Tennessee?
what's delaware got to do with it?
why would you intendance what the bottom looks similar? (other than marine growth)
why would you haul a 32' gunkhole every few weeks? (except that'south amend than the advice to get swimming every 7-x days and scrub the lesser of a 32' boat--right.)
why would you sandblast paint off?

Location and gunkhole size--start there!

Re: Tin I get away without painting the bottom of my boat?

Im maxim shrink wrap for the winter if thats he is concerned with for storage on a trailer. Likewise, i left my boat on the delaware with no bottom paint and nothing happened that was bad, yes its tennesee just its not a dissimilar planet. Never told him he had to haul his gunkhole every few weeks simply maxim i did. and sandblasting is really the simply way to completely remove bottom paint if yous ever make up one's mind you lot don't desire it.
